People in the culture
People of Chinese origin still cling to their eastern

more than 600 old and new temples, shrines and monasteries
around the city. On many social aspects, the underlying
principle followed are "family solidarity",
"courtesy" and "saving face". Lion
Dance is performed in most Festivals in Hong Kong. Though
those born after 1945 have had a good western upbringing
with liberal western culture and can be classified as
westernized.
Languages
The people of Hong Kong speak mainly Cantonese. However,
from 1997, the government of Hong Kong has made Chinese
and English as the official language with Cantonese
as the de facto official language.
Superstition
In spite of relatively high level of modernization,
Chinese superstition has a major role in the life of
Chinese people. Feng Shui has a major role in every
project, however expensive it might be. Feng Shui is
believed to break or make business. People still use
bagua mirror to ward off evils. The role of numbers
are still present in everyday activities. Scissors are
still not used on Chinese
New Year.
Holidays
The holidays in Hong Kong include Chinese New Year,
Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival.
Pop Culture
The Culture of Hong Kong definitely includes Cantopop.
Cantopop has a major dominance in Hong Kong. In spite
of many other forms of music, Cantopop fans are the
biggest draw of the market. With the influx of mandarin
influence, the present artists sing Cantonese and Mandarin.
Food
Food continues to take the center stage of Hong Kong
people and is a major part of the Culture of Hong Kong.
The cuisine on offer at the restaurants are a mix of
the east and the west. The variety of dishes on offer
include Dim Sum, da been lo to fast food and other rare
delicacies.
Shopping
Hong Kong is well known as the Shoppers' paradise as
the place has a materialistic culture. The place has
a wide array of markets from lowest end to the most
upscale ones. With low tax and mild weather, Hong is
a major shopping center. Some of the famous shopping
destination include Mongkok, Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway
Bay.
